Nestled in a small shopping center hangs a very small sign for Tallahassee’s newest sandwich shop. Shaped like a slice of all-American white bread, and emblazoned with a snazzy red spatula, Melt Daddy’s (officially located at 1989 Capital Circle, NE), was a bit tricky to locate. Parking was a snap, and I waited for Kirsten to arrive for our workday lunch date.
Gooey cheese between two slices of bread is our jam, and together we ventured into what we hoped would be grilled cheese Nirvana. Melt Daddy’s offers nine specialty melts, ranging from the Southern Melt (complete with country fried steak, collard greens, fried onions, and American cheese) to the Hawaiian Melt (ham, bacon, pineapple, and cheddar) to the Pesto Melt (turkey, provolone, tomato, and basil pesto). Each of the melts is accompanied by choice of side (soup, side salad, or tater tots). Build your own sandwiches are also available, and for those looking for a more inexpensive meal, the classic grilled cheese costs only $0.99.
We weighed our options and ordered the Yankee Melt with a side of Cajun tater tots, and the Apple Melt with a side of buffalo ranch tots. Checking into Melt Daddy’s with Facebook earned us 10% off our order, and with a little extra money in our pocket we found a table. For more on Melt Daddy’s read the full review on Tallahassee.com.
