I was in the mood for BBQ, and visited Johnston’s County Shack located in a small lot next to the Wal-Mart on Mahan Drive. Tall banners trumpeting “real food” stood over the red and white checkered trailer. The sun was blazing overhead as I pulled into the parking lot and made my way towards the window to place my order.
Johnston’s offers four kinds of barbecued meat (ribs, chopped pork, chicken, and sausage), and BBQ wraps. Slaw, potato salad, and mac n’ cheese and several other sides were also available. I wanted a traditional platter, but could not decide between the chopped pork and ribs. My indecision led to me ordering both meats as part of a combination platter. For sides, the woman working inside the trailer recommended an off menu specialty, the Firehouse potatoes, and the mac n’ cheese. A bottled water completed my meal, and lunch came to a shade over $11.00. For more on Johnston’s County Shack read the full review on Tallahassee.com.
