I ambled up the gangplank of Fulton’s Crab House with my arms full of bags from our shopping expedition in Downtown Disney. Becky had arrived a few minutes earlier with the kids and had been seated in a long narrow dining area running down the starboard side of the steamship.
Miss Julia and Mason were busily coloring on a kids menu when the waiter appeared. He filled our glasses with water and asked if we wanted to try one of their specialty drinks. Despite it only being 11:30 a.m., Becky and I each ordered a cocktail. I opted for a play on a rum based drink and was handed a pint glass full of tropical juices and booze. It was delicious and if I did not have a four hour drive ahead of me, I would have opted for a second.
As I sipped on the drink and relaxed I looked over the menu. I ordered a half dozen of oysters on the half shell as an appetizer and the crab cake BLT as my meal. In honor of Jameis Winston, Becky ordered the chilled seafood platter with king crab, oysters, and shrimp. Since she does not like oysters, the waiter offered to double her shrimp, which she happily accepted.
The oysters arrived on a bed of ice and were served with horseradish, cocktail sauce, and crackers. The briney goodness of my favorite mollusk did not need any garnishments, and I happily slurped down all six.
The oyster shells were cleared away and our meals arrived. Becky’s chilled seafood plate was a monstrosity full of steamed crab legs and shrimp. She happily worked on extracting the sweet crab meat and offered some shrimp to the kids and me. They were plump and perfectly cooked.
The crab cake BLT was served on a toasted ciabatta. A jumbo lump crab cake was balanced on several pieces of thick cut bacon. Lettuce, tomato, avocado, cheddar cheese and a tangy mustard sauce completed the sandwich. The combination of ingredients resulted in a delicious sandwich, and I was glad I took the recommendation of our waiter. The homemade potato chips which accompanied the sandwich were also very good. They were still warm and lightly salted.
Service throughout our meal was unbeatable and our waiter and the staff of Fulton’s made our meal veryenjoyable.
