Hunt Club Subs & Grill is located in a shopping place on Thomasville Road a stones throw from Chiles High School. At lunch time it is packed with students racing in to grab a sandwich or burger before 6th period. Becky and I attempted to grab lunch here earlier in the month but were driven away by a lack of time and long lines. Today I got there before the pack of students and placed our order. Becky’s students have raved about their hamburgers and I ordered two of them.
While waiting for the food I took a seat. The restaurant slowly began to fill up with students and some county employees on their lunch breaks. Hunt Club’s walls are covered with rough sawed paneling and tackle boxes serve as dispensers for silverware. There was a deer head on the wall and the tables were dotted with people holding up their trophies. The restaurant was clean and there was not a speck of trash to be found on the ground. The staff was very friendly and the wait for our food was short.
As for the burger, I opened the bun and saw it was a pre-formed patty that has been topped with a slice of yellow cheese after it had taken on the griddle. Sprinkled on top of that were some strands of lettuce and a slice of tomato. I took a bite. It was cooked well done but still was juicy. It was not a bad burger, but it was nothing special. Sitting next to the burger was a large pile of french fries. They were golden brown and crunchy. When compared to the burger that was next to them the fries were by and far the stars of the paper lined plastic basket. As we left I noticed some other customers enjoying their sandwiches. They looked pretty good, and I wish I had ordered one.
