Tonight Becky and I headed up to Thomasville, Georgia to dine at Liam’s. We discovered this gem on Valentines Day in 2004 and it quickly became our favorite restaurant.
Earlier this week I made reservations for us and this evening we arrived a little before 6 o’clock. We were shown to our table and our server immediately introduced herself. Our drink order was taken and a basket of nice crunchy bread appeared on the table.
All week Becks and I were looking forward to a celebrating her birthday with a nice relaxing meal. While we chatted and enjoyed our drinks we looked over the menu. Becky wanted to get a cheese board and I thought the oyster stew looked good. We deferred to our server on the cheese selections and she brought over a selection of 3. They were a mixture of goat and cow milk, hard and soft, mild and pungent. My favorite was the Époisses.
We could not decide on an entree, so while Becky sampled more cheese I tried the oyster stew. Numerous oysters floated in a broth of heavy cream and onions. The oysters tasted like the sea and the stew was simple and very delicious.
Following the second course Becky ordered the blue crab soup and a blood orange salad. She enjoyed both of her choices. I ordered the farmer’s toast. It consisted of a toasted piece of baguette topped with a large portion of mushrooms, covered in a cream sauce with truffle oil and topped with a fried egg. It was one of the best things I have ever eaten and I used some extra bread our server brought to the table to sop up the remaining sauce. We finished our meal with bananas foster over vanilla gelato. It was a fabulous ending to an amazing meal!
As usually our meal was fantastic and the service was attentive. The owners and staff do such a great job at making you feel welcome. They encourage you to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. I can only say this once, so here it goes. Liam’s is the best place to eat in the Greater Tallahassee area and well worth the trip to Thomasville from wherever you may live.
