Smallcakes

My favorite snack when I was a kid was a Hostess chocolate cupcake. I would peel the twist of white frosting off the top, remove the chocolate icing in one swoop, and then methodically eat the cake making sure each bite contained a bit of the cream.

With bringing desert home to the kids as an excuse I walked into Smallcakes, Tallahassee’s newest cupcakery. Smallcakes is a national chain with locations in fifteen states and plans to open three stores in Dubai, UAE.  I surveyed the pint sized pastries while a friendly clerk with a bright pink hat assisted another customer. Fourteen flavors ranging from red velvet, strawberry, and peanut butter cup filled the racks, and I knew I was going to have difficulty selecting just a few to take home. 1. Are they actually “small” or are they just smaller than the oversized ones at other cupcakeries, thereby making them the size cupcakes are when you make them at home?
