Persis Grill

Tallahassee is now home to Persis Grill, a small chain of eleven restaurants in eleven states that specialize in authentic Indian cuisine.  Located in a strip mall across from Academy Sports, the restaurant is sandwiched between a taco joint and one specializing in Japanese food.  Parking during the lunch rush was a chore, but we found a space after circling the lot for a couple of minutes. Dark plate glass windows shield the inside of Persis from prying eyes, and as we made our way towards the restaurant I had no idea what to expect.

Walking into the restaurant we were immediately greeted by a young man who served double duty as the hostess and the restaurant’s lone waiter.  We were seated in a booth towards the front and our drink order was taken.  Above the lacquered tables black and white photographs of cricket players lined the wall.  The floors were a deep orange stained concrete.  At the back a bar ran the length of the restaurant.  Various wines and beers, including Kingfisher, lined the shelves.   The space was slick, modern, and spotless. • Yeah, I am not a fan of buffets either. But since I have limited experience with Indian food, and find it somewhat intimidating, I like I can try a bunch of things at once. Also, I’ve added goat to the list of animals I will eat. Delicious.
