For a married couple with two small children date nights are something to be treasured. One of these rare occasions presented itself this past weekend, and I decided to take Becky to Sweet Grass Dairy’s new restaurant, Blue Coop. In honor of a night on the town with my beautiful wife I broke out my new bow tie. Dressed to the nines we left Mason and Miss Julia with a trusted babysitter and headed up U.S. 19 towards the Florida/Georgia line.
Blue Coop is located at 123 South Broad Street in downtown Thomasville. Our reservations were for 8 o’clock, and we arrived a half hour early to enjoy a drink at the bar. Blue Coop offers over 150 wines and Becky paged through the extensive listing while I focused on their signature cocktails. She decided on a glass of Gewurztraminer and I ordered the Vavilov Affair. The friendly bartender explained it was a new drink he named for a Soviet botanist who was sentenced to death by Stalin. It was a sad back story, but a delicious drink as the combination of applejack, bourbon, fresh muddled green apples, Demerara sugar, and bitters provided a nice apple aroma and mixture of flavors.
