Taco Republik

The kitchen space of the Midtown Filling Station is now occupied by the owners of MoBi who are dishing up their version of Mexican-inspired cuisine under the Taco Republik banner.  I have wanted to pay them a visit since I saw the announcement online, and I was finally able to eat there this past Taco Tuesday.  Pulling into the parking lot of the Manor @ Midtown I hunted down a  space and made my way around the side of the building that faces the Whataburger.

Walking in the gas pumps and signs that lined the walls of the MTFS have been replaced by flat screen television and a slick modern interior.  Above the cash register a chalk board displayed the menu.  A laminated plastic version listed more options ranging from tacos, to burritos, to soups, and salads.  The tacos caught my eye.  Taco Republik has two tiers of tacos, regular and especiales. The regular versions are filled with a choice of chicken, seasoned ground beef, or carnitas for $3 a piece or three for $7.50.  The specialty tacos were more interesting and contained flank steak, fried shrimp, lightly fried Mahi, buffalo chicken, or tofu.  These tacos ranged in price from $4 a piece or three for $10.50.
