Lenny’s Lands in Midtown

Midtown’s newest addition to grab a quick bite to eat is Lenny’s Sub Shop.  The franchise opened its first restaurant in 1998 near Memphis, Tennessee and now boast locations in 20 states.  I was curious to see what set Lenny’s apart from its sub slinging rivals and convinced my co-worker Joe to check it out for lunch. Lenny’s first Tallahassee location occupies a brick building at the corner of Thomasville Road and 6th Ave.  Parking was available when we arrived but as the lunch crowd poured in the lot quickly filled up. 2. Well from the looks of your sub I’m going to have to say they hooked you up because they knew you were coming. I wish, I could upload the picture of the cheese from my sub put all three pieces together and could still read the paper through them without a problem. Oh yeah and the meat all 4 pieces were just as thin. So i’m going to have to say your sub was a marketing ploy, for a really badly run sub shop.

    • Thanks for the comment! I am pretty sure they had no idea who I was when I went into the shop. I do not think I received a “stunt sub” since my friend ordered the same sandwich, and his looked exactly like mine. I also keep a low profile when I go into a new place, and I never tell them I write about food. I’m sorry you had a bad experience.

      • Mike well that’s a plus I was basing my remarks on the pictures of the sandwiches you have posted. I did a follow up and called Lenny’s corporate who claimed they put 1/2 pound of meat and cheese on their subs. Funny day I went was not the case, after guy on slicer who turned out to be an owner cut 3 less than paper thin pieces of cheese, and equally as thin pieces of meat. He proceeded to weigh my sandwich, still to date unsure what weight he was attempting to get. Well thanks for your reply and i’ll keep reading your reviews.

      • They proudly advertise the 1/2 pound of meat on their menu. I am unsure how they can weigh it once its on the bread, unless they zero out the scale. They do slice it paper thin. If I had to rank sub shops in Tallahassee I would go with Publix, Jersey Mike’s, Jimmy John’s, Lenny’s, and then Subway. I appreciate you reading!

      • Funny we have a similar stance on subs in Tally that would be about my ranking other than i would switch Subway and Lenny’s. Worst part for me is i grew up around the corner form the original Jersey Mikes, and the one here is a bad copy of that. Looking forward to more of your reviews.

      • I ranked Lenny’s above Subway purely for the bread. The latter has no real body to it. I would love to visit one of the original Jersey Mike’s to see how different it is.

I am originally from New England, and there were lots of good sub shops up there. I actually worked in an Italian deli in high school and my lunch was a sub made with imported meats. Bit unfair to compare the above with that one.
