An Ultimate Wet Supreme Burrito Kind of Day

As lunchtime approached the natives were growing restless. We decided to venture to Cabo’s Island Grill and Bar. It is located on Apalachee Parkway in the same strip mall that houses Gold Gym. The bar sits nearest to the parking lot and to get to the restaurant you need to walk down the side. We opened the glass door and were greeted by the hostess. She placed us in a booth and supplied crayons and paper for the kids to doodle with while we looked over the menu. While we decided our server took our drink orders and promptly returned with our waters, sodas and a bargain priced Pabst Blue Ribbon.

The restaurant was clean but could use some paint in a few areas. It had the feel of a well worn pair of jeans. There were numerous surfboards hung from the ceiling and along with the aqua blue vinyl booths contributed to a laid back beach feel. Little man’s favorite part was the large fish tank at the back while I enjoyed the restaurant’s funky feel.

Cabo’s offers a lot of choices. They had burgers, Mexican food and various sandwiches. I wanted a burger but not knowing how it would be shied away from the $9 price tag. Instead I decided on the Ultimate Wet Supreme Chicken Burrito. Becky ordered some enchiladas and we got Mason a chicken finger basket. To keep the kids from revolting while we waited for our meals we got some chips and salsa. Unlike most restaurants that serve Mexican food Cabo’s charges a $1.99 for this staple. The basket of chips arrived with 2 salsas (one hot and one mild). The salsa was good with some nice heat.

While Julia tried to eat a crayon our meals arrived. My burrito was served with the ends open piled high with lettuce, salsa and chile con queso. Inside the burrito was filled with cheese, beans and chicken. The chicken was dark meat and while it did not bother me those who prefer white meat should go for the Ultimate King Cabo Burrito. The ingredients in the burrito were fresh and it had a good flavor. The portion size was very good and I was thoroughly stuffed by the time I finished my meal.

The check arrived and I was surprised. I had expected it to be higher but on the way out saw a sign advertising a free kid’s meal with the purchase of any entree. I will have to make a mental note of that deal so we can take advantage of it again.

As a whole we enjoyed Cabo’s. The food was good and it is a nice place to bring your kids for a laid back lunch.

    • Ha! Best part was when I was standing near the door waiting for little man to get done looking at the fish she was chowing on an orange crayon. I had no idea till I looked at her and she gave me a crayon speckled grin! An older couple was laughing at me and said “it’ll all come out in the end!” :)
